Growing Roots is the learning you need for your role.
We ask all new volunteers to complete Growing Roots learning within your first six months.
Safety & Safeguarding learning must be completed within your first 30 days.
It covers the basics of Scouts, safety, data protection and creating an inclusive environment.
The only people who don't need to complete this learning are Presidents, Vice Presidents, Non Member - Needs Disclosure, Retired Members and Designated Carers.

If you are volunteering with young people in the Squirrel, Beaver, Cub, Scout, Explorer, or Network sections then you will also need to complete Module 3 - Tools for the role.
When you complete this module please save or take a screenshot of the completion certificate. You will need to send this to your line manager or training advisor.
As part of the validation for this training module you will also need to do the following:
Plan and run, or help to run, a section meeting, including one activity or game, and one ceremony.
Meet with your Training Adviser to discuss what you did and how it went.
If you are volunteering as a member of a trustee board then there is an induction module just for you.

If you are volunteering as a manager or supporter of other volunteers then you will also need to complete Module 4 - Tools for the role.

There are two parts to validating this module:
Download the e-learning certificate and email it to your volunteer line manager and Training Adviser.
Complete two tasks which you'll agree with your Training Adviser.
Some examples of the tasks you can choose to do are:
Give examples of how you manage your time, including what you use to keep on top of tasks and projects.
Talk about what you can do to make sure young people get a quality programme and what you would do if you thought there was a problem with the programme.
Give an example of how you support and manage volunteer teams in your Group, District or County/Area/Region (Scotland).
Arrange some time with your Training Adviser to agree which tasks you'll complete and when you'll do them.
